Allergy and Immunology

Allergies occur when our body’s natural immune system reacts to an external source which it is not resistant to, and is normally not harmful to the human body. An individual may be allergic to various allergens such as dust, pollen, mold, certain food ingredients, pet fur and medication. Allergic reactions come in many forms such as itchy and watery eyes (hay fever), itchy inflamed skin (hives and eczema), breathing difficulties (asthma or even anaphylaxis) and blood pressure fluctuation, and symptoms can range from mild to severe.

Allergies can affect anyone, at any age, and sufferers should seek treatment to manage symptoms.

Immunology is the study of the relationship between the body’s system and its immunity. Disorders of the immune system include lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and other hypersensitivities such as asthma and other allergies.
