Frequently Asked Questions:

What is a medical check-up or health screening?
A medical check-up, often called a health screening, is a comprehensive evaluation of your overall health. It typically involves a series of tests, including blood work, imaging (such as X- rays or ultrasounds), and physical examinations. The primary goal is to assess your general health, detect any potential issues early on, and provide insights into your risk for certain conditions. Health screenings can be tailored to focus on specific diseases or conditions based on your age, gender, and health history, helping you maintain optimal health and catch any issues before they develop into more serious problems.
Why is regular health screening important?
Regular health screening is crucial because it helps detect potential health issues early before they become serious. By identifying risk factors and early signs of diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, or cancer, health screenings enable timely intervention and treatment. This proactive approach improves your chances of successful treatment and helps you maintain better overall health and quality of life. Regular screenings provide you with a comprehensive understanding of your health status, allowing you and your healthcare provider to make informed decisions about your health and lifestyle.
What should I do before a health screening?

To ensure accurate results during your health screening, follow these guidelines before your appointment:

  • Fasting: Do fast for 8-10 hours before the screening (plain water is allowed). Fasting is required specifically for blood test, urine test and ultrasound abdomen. You can have a light breakfast on us after the completion of blood taking, ultrasound abdomen and urine collection.
  • Avoid Smoking and Alcohol: Refrain from smoking or consuming alcohol for at least 8 hours before the appointment.
  • Medications: You may continue taking your routine medications, such as those for high blood pressure (antihypertensives), thyroid conditions, and heart-related treatments. However, please avoid taking diabetes medications (e.g., insulin or oral hypoglycaemic agents) on the morning of the screening, as fasting may affect your blood sugar levels. If you are on any blood-thinning medications (e.g., aspirin, warfarin), please consult with your doctor prior to the screening for specific instructions.
  • Pelvis Ultrasound: Before undergoing the Pelvis Ultrasound, you will be asked to drink at least 4 to 5 glasses of water or until you have the urge to pass urine. This is because a full bladder allows better visualisation of the pelvic organs during ultrasound.
  • Abdomen Ultrasound: For Abdomen Ultrasound, please remain fasted until the test has been completed.
  • Treadmill Stress Test: Our doctors will assess if you are fit to do this test beforehand. Prior to this test (after your blood test and abdomen ultrasound), you may have a light breakfast. It is advisable to avoid caffeinated drinks prior to the test. Remember to bring along your running pants, T-shirt and running shoes. For your comfort, please empty your bladder before the test. Lockers are available for your convenience.
  • X-Ray: X-Rays are not recommended for anyone who is pregnant or maybe pregnant. A Beta HCG blood test (with additional payment) may be required to rule out pregnancy.
  • Mammogram: Avoid this examination if you are pregnant or maybe pregnant. Please arrange for your appointment to be at between 7-10 days after your last day of menstruation. Do not wear any deodorant, perfume, powder or cream under your arms or chest area as it may interfere with the quality of the mammogram. A Beta HCG blood test (with additional payment) may be required to rule out pregnancy.
  • Special Advice for Women: For pap smear, urine and stool tests, do it at least 7-10 days after the last day of your period. If you are menstruating on the day of your appointment, do inform the clinic staff on arrival as you will not be able to do your urine, stool and pap smear tests. You will be able to continue with the other tests and will be requested to make another appointment to complete the urine, stool and pap smear tests.
  • Important: If you are feeling unwell or have any symptoms of illness (such as fever, flu, or infections), it is recommended to postpone your medical check-up until you have fully recovered. This ensures accurate test results and a safer screening experience.

These are general recommendations, but specific instructions may apply depending on the type of health screening you’re undergoing. It’s important to discuss any additional preparations with your doctor before your appointment.
