Doctor for Helicobacter Pylori
Hello Doctor Thank you for the answer about Urea Breath Test. I'm still have a few question about it.1. Just for make sure again. If my daughter's antibiotics finish on March 1st, so I can check Urea breath test on March 2nd. Is that true? How many hours we need to fasting for the best result? Should we fasting (stop drink and eat anything) more than 2 hours?2. If we want to have Urea breath test, should we have consultation with doctor first? If YES, which doctor we must go? Because my daughter also have some gastric problem. If NO, which department we should go first? We plan to go check at Gleneagles Hospital Penang.3. Should we do an endoscopy to check the gastric problem? For 8 yo kids, is endoscopy needs to inpatient at hospital? For how many days?4. Can we make an appointment by online? So, when we arrive at Penang we can go straight to the hospital.

Answer:

Dear Fransiska,

We extend our sincere gratitude for choosing Pantai Hospital Malaysia for your healthcare requirements.

Thank you for reaching out to us with your questions regarding the Urea Breath Test and your daughter’s gastric concerns. I am happy to assist you with the details.

  1. Urea Breath Test Timing & Fasting Requirement:
If your daughter’s antibiotic course ends on 1st March, she may proceed with the Urea Breath Test on 2nd March. Please ensure that she fasts for at least 2 hours prior to the test for the best results.
  2. Consultation Prior to Urea Breath Test:
A consultation with a specialist is mandatory before undergoing the Urea Breath Test. This will allow the doctor to assess her condition and determine if the test is necessary.
  3. Department for Consultation:
If you are seeking an initial consultation related to gastric issues or Helicobacter pylori, we recommend seeing a Pediatric Gastroenterologist. After a thorough evaluation, the doctor will provide guidance on whether the Urea Breath Test is needed.
  4. Consultation After Urea Breath Test:
If you wish to consult a doctor after the Urea Breath Test, we recommend following up with the Pediatric Gastroenterologist who ordered the test. Should further evaluation be needed, they will guide you on whether a referral to another specialist is necessary.
  5. Online Appointment Booking:
You can schedule an appointment online with us at Ask A Doctor before visiting Gleneagles Hospital Penang.
  6. Endoscopy Requirement:
The need for an endoscopy will be determined after a thorough assessment by the specialist. The doctor will advise if this procedure is necessary based on your daughter’s symptoms and test results.
  7. Hospitalization for 8-Year-Old:
Hospitalization requirements, if any, will depend on the evaluation by the doctor. The doctor will determine whether hospitalization is necessary and, if so, the duration based on her specific condition.

We eagerly await your response.

Feel free to reach us for further assistance,

Thank you.
