Dr. Chong was born and raised in Penang. He attended the Penang Free School before pursuing further studies in Universiti Sains Malaysia. He graduated with Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) in 1995 and Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 2000. He obtained membership of MRCP (UK) in 2005 and thereafter worked as Physician at Hospital Pulau Pinang for two years before undergoing sub-specialist training in Dermatology at Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor Bahru and Hospital Kuala Lumpur. He was awarded the Advanced Master of Dermatology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2010. He also trained in dermatologic laser surgery at Mahidol University, Bangkok.
Prior to joining Gleneagles Penang, Dr. Chong worked as a Consultant Physician and Dermatologist as well as Head of Department of Dermatology at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu.
Dr. Chong was actively involved in teaching, especially house officers and medical officers in the Ministry of Health hospitals. He was also an honorary lecturer at Penang Medical College UCSI University. He regularly participates in medical Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programmes and was an invited speaker at various seminars. His dedication to the medical profession earned him an ‘Excellent Service Award’ from the Ministry of Health in 2006 and in 2011.
