If my partner (F) was tested positive in STI test, is it best for me (M) to perform Swab STI for most accurate result? Or will Urine/ blood test give the same result?

Answer:

Hello,

We extend our sincere gratitude for choosing Gleneagles Hospital Malaysia for your healthcare requirements.
We are pleased to inform that Gleneagles Hospitals do offer medical consultations, procedures and treatments.

If your partner tested positive for an STI, it's important for you to get tested as well. The type of test you should get can depend on the specific STI in question.

  • Swab Tests: These are often the most accurate for certain infections, especially those affecting the genital area, throat, or rectum. If there’s a specific site of exposure, a swab test might be the best option.
  • Urine Tests: These are commonly used for testing certain STIs, like chlamydia and gonorrhea. They can be less invasive and are still quite effective for those infections.
  • Blood Tests: These are used for STIs like HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis. They can provide comprehensive information about infections that may not be detectable through swabs or urine.

It's best to consult with a healthcare provider who can recommend the most appropriate testing based on your situation and the specific STIs involved. They can also guide you on the timing of the test, as some infections may not be detectable immediately after exposure.
