ESR 120 but no symptom
Dear doctor, my mom has hemorrhagic stroke 15 months ago. Currently her ESR is 120, she does not has any symptom. (her ESR has been over 100 for nearly 2 months)

No headaches, no unexplained fever, no weight loss, no joint stiffness, no neck or shoulder pain, no loss of appetite and no anemia as listed on internet or any symptoms at all.

Should I concern about the very high ESR but without any symptoms?

Look forward for your advise. Thank you.

Answer:

I'm sorry to hear about your mom's hemorrhagic stroke. An elevated ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) can indicate inflammation or infection in the body. Given her history of stroke, it's important to monitor this closely. An ESR of 120 is quite high and warrants further investigation.

I recommend that your mom follows up for a thorough evaluation. They may want to run additional tests to determine the cause of the elevated ESR, such as imaging studies or blood tests. It's also important to monitor for any new symptoms that may arise.

In the meantime, encourage your mom to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate rest. Make sure she is taking any prescribed medications as directed.

If she experiences any new symptoms or if her condition worsens, seek medical attention immediately. It's best to address any potential issues promptly to ensure the best possible outcome for your mom's health.
