Do I need to have my gallbladder removed before pregnancy?
23F
Hello, I have a gallstone 16 mm, it can no longer be dissolved, but it has never bothered me. I have no pain even when I sometimes eat fatty foods. The gallbladder is working, there is no inflammation. Please tell me, do I need to have my gallbladder removed before a future pregnancy? Thank you.

Answer:

Dear Tatyana Elizarova,

We extend our sincere gratitude for choosing Gleneagles Hospital Malaysia for your healthcare requirements.

We are pleased to inform that Gleneagles Hospital  do offer medical consultations , treatment and procedures..

It's good to hear that you’re not experiencing any pain or discomfort from your gallstone. In many cases, if a gallstone isn't causing symptoms, doctors might not recommend surgery.

However, regarding pregnancy, it's important to consult with a medical personnel. While many women can have healthy pregnancies with gallstones, there is a risk that gallstones could lead to complications during pregnancy, such as pain or inflammation. Some doctors may suggest removal if there is a significant risk of future issues, especially before a planned pregnancy.

Ultimately, a surgeon will consider your individual situation, including the size of the gallstone, your gallbladder function, and your overall health. It’s best to discuss your concerns and plans for pregnancy with them to make an informed decision.

We would contact you to schedule an appointment.
