Child 7y walks tiptoeing
Hi, my 7year old daughter recently (around 6m to 1y period) develops a habit to tiptoeing while walking 90% of the time, even when she is wearing shoes. When asked to walk normally, she complains feeling pain and uncomfortable. Which doc should i consult? Thanks

Answer:

Dear Sir/Madam,

We extend our sincere gratitude for choosing Gleneagles Hospital Malaysia for your healthcare requirements.

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your daughter’s walking pattern. We understand your concern and appreciate your attentiveness to her development and comfort.

Tiptoe walking in children, particularly when it persists beyond the early walking years, may sometimes indicate underlying conditions such as muscle tightness, neurological issues, or orthopedic concerns. Since your daughter experiences discomfort and pain when attempting to walk flat-footed, we recommend a comprehensive evaluation.

We advise you to schedule a consultation with a Paediatrician or a Paediatric Orthopaedic Specialist. This specialist will be able to assess her gait, examine muscle tone, and determine if further investigations or therapy are necessary.
