The endocrine system involves a complex group of glands controlling an individual’s hormones that are used for reproduction, metabolism, growth and development. These glands include the thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas, ovaries, testes, adrenal, pituitary and hypothalamus.
The Three Diabetic Types
1
Type 1
2
Type 2
With over 90% of diabetics having type 2 diabetes, this is currently the most common form of diabetes in the world. While insulin production isn't really affected, the patient's body is unable to put it to proper use. The cause of type 2 diabetes is also unknown but trends show that most patients tend to be over 40 years of age, overweight to obese and have a family history. Those who have gestational diabetes during pregnancy are also susceptible to this form of diabetes.
Prediabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough for a diabetes diagnosis. This stage serves as a crucial point between normal blood sugar levels and the development of type 2 diabetes. Many adults with prediabetes do not exhibit any symptoms, even though their blood sugar levels are elevated.
