Hysterectomy (Womb Removal)

Hysterectomy (Womb Removal)

A Hysterectomy is surgical procedure performed to remove your uterus (womb) that can be done in the abdomen or vagina. These procedures are both referred to as Abdominal Hysterectomy or Vaginal Hysterectomy.

The Abdominal Hysterectomy is carried out when the uterus becomes enlarged from fibroids or tumours. The Vaginal Hysterectomy is carried out when there is a prolapsed uterus. In some cases, a laparoscopic or 'keyhole' surgery is done as a minimally invasive procedure.

In certain cases, your ovaries fallopian tubes are removed along with the uterus and cervix too. This procedure is considered only when alternative treatments show ineffective.
