Officiated by Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, the initiative marks a significant step in expanding access to specialised neurological care.
VNS therapy delivers gentle electrical impulses to the brain to help reduce seizure frequency, offering new hope for patients who are not suitable for surgery.
The hospital also introduced remote programming, allowing doctors to monitor and adjust treatment online, improving accessibility and reducing the need for frequent hospital visits.
Consultant neurologist Dr Chee Yong Chuan said the technology enables more precise and personalised care, improving patients’ quality of life.
Acting CEO Ng Bong Seng added that the new Epilepsy Centre integrates advanced diagnostics, including AI-powered EEG monitoring, supported by a multidisciplinary team of specialists.
With limited access to advanced epilepsy treatments nationwide, the initiative aims to close gaps in care while strengthening Penang’s position as a regional healthcare hub.
