Capsule endoscopy involves a painless and non-invasive diagnostic tool which enters the body and records visual imagery of the small intestine. An individual is required to swallow a pill that goes down the oesophagus, enters the stomach and into the small intestine. This pill is excreted and the images will then be used to assess for any abnormalities within the small intestine and diagnose disorders.
Why do you need Capsule Endoscopy?
This is performed when its used to detect any abnormalities and to find where the bleeding is coming from within the small intestine. Additionally, it can be useful in diagnosing tumours or inflammatory bowel disease. Your doctor will use this technique to determine the cause of symptoms such as severe abdominal pain or diarrhoea.
